Humber students in the Graphic and Package Design program are putting their mark on the products we use every day. The three-year advanced diploma highlights the importance of excellent design in an industry where packaging is what ultimately sells to consumers. Students learn to meet those demands in a variety of mediums, including graphic design, marketing, packaging technology and three-dimensional design. The program focuses on the entire developmental process, from the conceptual stage of package design, to getting a final product on store shelves. “We learn both the theory side and the hands-on side,” says Andrew Tran, a third year student in the program. “Most of our instructors are employed in the field so they approach us as colleagues working in the industry.” Graduates of the program have gone on to become Senior Package Designers, Structural Design Managers, Art Directors, Product Branding Designers or Packaging Managers at leading companies in the industry. Graphic and Packaging Design boasts more than a 90 per cent job placement rate for Humber students. The program also includes a four-month internship. Tran says he plans to use his internship to give himself an advantage in the industry. “I’m planning to work on the branding side. I’d like to redesign and refresh a line of products.” For more information, visit www.humber.ca
